The record, and the run at it

The highest FPL gameweek score (and a fresh run at one every week)

Record gameweeks are made of the same four things every time, and none of them are available on demand. What is available on demand is another attempt: in DraftIcon PL everybody starts level every gameweek, the world record for the week is live on the board, and your own best is the number the game keeps forever.

The short answer

The all-time single-gameweek record in Fantasy Premier League is a number in the low 200s, reported by Fantasy Football Scout and other FPL sites for gameweek 34 of the 2015/16 season. It needed a triple-figure haul from one attacker, a captain who doubled it, and a defence that all kept clean sheets in the same weekend.

Which is why chasing it in the official game is not really a plan. Chasing your own record is, and that is a different game entirely: it only needs one weekend to go right.

In DraftIcon PL your highest gameweek is not buried in a history table. It sits in your Hall of Fame with the week it happened, where it ranked in your country, and how far above projection it was.

What a record gameweek is made of

Look at any of the famous scores and the same ingredients turn up. Knowing them will not get you one, but it tells you where the ceiling actually comes from.

  1. One player having the game of his lifeA hat-trick with assists and bonus points is worth more than a good week from three midfielders. Every record week has one of these underneath it.
  2. Your captain being that playerThe armband doubles it, so a record needs the biggest haul of the round to be on the one player you doubled. That is the coin flip inside the coin flip.
  3. A defence that all keeps clean sheetsAttack sets the headline, but defenders and a goalkeeper from the same shut-out weekend are what turn a very good score into a silly one.
  4. A chip, usuallyBench boost or triple captain on the right weekend adds a layer nobody can plan for, because the fixtures have to cooperate at the same time.

Put together, that is four independent things landing on the same weekend for a squad you picked days earlier. It happens to somebody every season, which is exactly why it almost never happens to you.

The question underneath the question

What counts as a good gameweek score?

The honest answer is that it depends on the round, and the official game tells you the only benchmark that matters: the average score of the gameweek, published as soon as the deadline passes. Beating it comfortably is a good week. Doubling it is a great one. Everything else is a story people tell in the group chat.

That is also why comparing scores across seasons rarely means much. A gameweek with two double fixtures and four clean sheets pushes everybody up; a blank gameweek in January pushes everybody down. The gameweek average moves with it, and your score should be read against that number rather than against a record set in 2016.

Where your next attempt starts

Same pool, same day, everybody at zero.

Cards are dealt, the clock runs on every pick, and the gameweek does the rest. Nobody is carrying a squad from August, so the ceiling is the same for all of us.

The part that is actually chaseable

A world record that resets every gameweek

In the official game the record is a historical fact from a season most managers were not playing in. In DraftIcon PL it is this week's number, and it moves while you watch.

Every gameweek, everybody drafts from nothing on the same day. Under the table sit two numbers: the best score anybody in the world managed in a gameweek, and the world average that the table itself is ranked by, so you always know what you are chasing and where the field is. Your own best gameweek is kept in the Hall of Fame with the date attached, and beating it is the small, private version of the same chase.

It is a genuinely different feeling from the official game, where a huge week mostly means you finally caught up with the template. Here a huge week is a rank, immediately, against everybody who played that gameweek.

The week record and the world average

Both sit under your friends table: the highest gameweek score recorded worldwide, and the world average the table is ranked by. One is the target, the other is the field you are measured against.

Honest about the comparison

Declared plainly: the numbers in our game are not FPL scores and should not be read as them. An FPL squad is fifteen players with a captain, a budget and price changes. Ours is eleven drafted from packs with no captain and no budget, so the two scales look similar and are not interchangeable.

What that means in practice: beating our week record is not beating the FPL record, and nobody should tell their mini-league otherwise. What it is instead is a live target that exists this week, against people who drafted this morning, which the official record has not been for anybody since 2016.

Both games run happily side by side. Whether FPL itself is a weekly game covers what actually resets there, and the FPL alternatives page sets out the whole field, official games included.

Quick answers

What is the highest FPL gameweek score ever?

FPL sites including Fantasy Football Scout put the all-time single-gameweek record in the low 200s, set in gameweek 34 of the 2015/16 season. Because it needed a captain haul, clean sheets across a defence and a chip on the same weekend, it has stood for years.

What is a good FPL gameweek score?

Read it against the gameweek average that the official game publishes after every deadline. Comfortably above it is a good week, roughly double it is a great one, and comparisons with other seasons mean very little because rounds differ so much.

Who has scored the most points in a single gameweek?

The record holders are individual managers rather than famous names, and the leaderboards that list them are run by FPL community sites rather than by the Premier League. The official game shows your own gameweek history rather than an all-time table.

What makes a record-breaking gameweek?

One player having an enormous game, that player being your captain, a defence keeping clean sheets in the same round, and usually a chip. Four independent things landing on the same weekend for a squad picked days earlier.

Can I still chase a record if my season is going badly?

In the official game, only in the sense that a single big week is always possible. In a weekly draft game the question does not arise: every gameweek starts level, so a bad season cannot rule you out of a good week.

Where can I see my best gameweek?

The official game keeps your gameweek history in your team's history page. In DraftIcon PL your best gameweek sits in the Hall of Fame with the date, the rank it earned in your country and how far above projection it was.

Is the DraftIcon week record comparable with FPL scores?

No, and we would rather say so. Our squads are eleven players drafted from packs with no captain and no budget, so the scale looks similar but measures a different game.

How often can I try for a big score?

Every gameweek, because the squad expires and the next one is dealt to everybody at the same time. There is no entry fee and nothing to buy.

Does the world record show while the matches are running?

The week record and the world average both sit under the table, so you can see what the best gameweek out there looked like and where the field is while your own is running.

Is DraftIcon PL official?

No. It is our own game, free to play, with no affiliation to the Premier League and no connection to the official Fantasy Premier League records.

The record is this week's.
