Search for one and you get app directories padded with statistics tools, which is why the answer never arrives. There are only three kinds of alternative: another official game, a third-party league, or a different format entirely. Two of those are worth knowing about before you hear ours, and one of them is run by the Premier League itself. DraftIcon PL is the third kind: a draft every gameweek, no league to found, nothing to pay.
Two very different complaints share one search box. The first is the official game is fine, the interface is not, and the answer to that is a tool: Fantasy Football Fix, Fantasy Football Scout and Fantasy Football Hub all rank for these searches, and none of them is an alternative game. They add projections, price alerts and planners to the FPL team you already have. If that is your complaint, stop reading and go there.
The second is the format itself has stopped working for me: one squad since August, a mini-league already decided, transfers that cannot close a gap. That is a different problem, and the honest map of it looks like this.
| Alternative | What it actually is | What it needs | Starts fresh? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weekly draft game DraftIcon PL |
Open packs and draft an eleven for the coming gameweek, ranked against everyone else playing it. | Nobody. No league, no invite, no account for the mock draft. | Every gameweek |
| Fantasy Challenge official |
The Premier League's own second game: a blank team sheet and a fresh budget each gameweek, with a changing rule on top, such as doubled goals or five strikers. | A Premier League account. Leagues run season-long. | Every gameweek |
| FPL Draft official |
One draft before the season, then a league where each player belongs to exactly one manager. | 2 to 16 managers who stay until May. | Once a season |
| Fantrax, Draft Fantasy third party |
Season-long draft leagues with more settings to tweak than the official game offers. | A league of managers, same as FPL Draft. | Once a season |
| Fix, Scout, Hub tools, not games |
Projections, planners and price alerts for the FPL squad you already own. | An FPL team to improve. | Not a game |
Checked on 5 September 2026 on the Premier League's own pages: Fantasy, Fantasy Challenge and FPL Draft. Classic FPL passed eleven million managers this season, which is worth remembering before calling anything a replacement for it.
Real footage: a pack opens, you take a player, the next pick is already running. Fourteen of those and your gameweek is set. This is the part that neither budget game has.

If a weekly reset is what you are after, the Premier League already built one, and it deserves to be named before we describe ours. Fantasy Challenge hands you an empty team sheet and a full budget every gameweek, then changes a rule to keep it interesting. It is free, it is official, and for a lot of bored FPL managers it is the right answer.
What it is not is a draft. You still shop from the whole league under a budget, which means the skill is valuation, the same skill Classic asks for. DraftIcon PL asks a different one: cards come to you in packs, you choose from the hand in front of you, and the eleven you end up with is shaped by what you were dealt and what you passed on. Fourteen picks, then real Premier League points, then a country and a world ranking that close with the gameweek.
The reason the results disappoint is that the question has no product category behind it. Fantasy Premier League is not a genre with competitors the way streaming services are; it is one enormous free game with eleven million managers and a lot of satellite software. So the pages that rank are app directories listing whatever carries the words in its title, which is how a statistics planner ends up on a list of alternatives to a game.
The useful way to ask it is by complaint rather than by category. Bored because your season is already decided? A weekly format fixes exactly that, official or ours. Bored because everyone owns the same three players? That is what a draft is for, and the official one runs once a season while ours runs every gameweek. Bored because it takes too long? Then the answer is not another season-long commitment with a different badge on it, and most of the list can be ignored.
And one honest note in the other direction: none of this is a reason to delete your FPL team. The two official games and this one all run in parallel, on separate accounts, and most people who arrive here keep playing Classic in their mini-league while they do something else on the side.

The complaint underneath most of these searches is not really about features. It is that a season-long game asks for attention in September and pays it back in May, and the middle is long. A gameweek format pays out every weekend: you draft on Friday, the matches settle it on Sunday, and by Monday there is a result rather than a standing.
Around that sit the things a one-squad game cannot offer. A duel against a friend that is decided this weekend rather than in spring. A daily call on a single player. A ranking for your own country, which the big international games do not break out. And nothing to buy anywhere, because the whole thing is free and carries no store.
For the Premier League there are three honest kinds. Another official game: Fantasy Challenge for a weekly reset, FPL Draft for one-owner squads. A third-party season league such as Fantrax. Or a different format altogether, which is where a weekly draft game like DraftIcon PL sits. Anything else on the usual lists is a tool for improving the FPL team you already have.
Depends on whether you want help or a change. For help with your existing squad, the planners and projection sites are what people mean, and they are add-ons rather than alternatives. For a change of game, the shortlist is short: Fantasy Challenge, FPL Draft, Fantrax, and weekly draft games.
For the classic game it is the official one, and it is not close: eleven million managers means your mini-league is already there. Platforms only become a real question once you want a draft, because the official draft game needs a league of 2 to 16 that survives the season.
Two. Fantasy Challenge, the Premier League's own, gives you an empty team sheet and a new budget each gameweek with a changing rule. DraftIcon PL gives you a draft each gameweek instead of a budget: packs of player cards, fourteen picks, then real points. Both are free, and neither carries anything over from the week before.
Fantasy Premier League is that version, and it is the biggest fantasy game in the world. If you arrived from the American game and are looking for the draft you know from there, the official Premier League answer is FPL Draft, and the weekly one is this. The comparison between the two official games is on FPL Draft or Classic.
The official one, for the same reason as above: the people you want to beat are in it. The useful question for anyone already there is which second game to add, and that depends on what has gone stale. A decided season points to a weekly format, a squad identical to everyone else's points to a draft.
No, and it would be a strange trade. The two official games and this one run on separate accounts in parallel, so the mini-league you have played since August stays exactly where it is. Most people here play both, one for the season and one for the weekend.
No. It is an independent fan project and it is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Premier League. The official games are Fantasy, Fantasy Challenge and FPL Draft, all on premierleague.com. Points here are calculated from real match data, which is why the official games are named honestly on this page rather than talked around.
Yes, free with no ads and nothing to buy, and the mock draft needs no account. If you also follow the NFL, the same login carries the American edition.
Draft a new eleven for this gameweek, see where it lands in your country and in the world, then do it again on Friday.
